Hooked: Makeup by James Kaliardos at Rodarte Spring/Summer 2015
For Rodarte’s sea-inspired spring collection, NARS makeup artist James Kaliardos wanted to create a look that was “cool, but not too punk.” And what’s more punk than a whole eyebrow’s worth of piercings?
“They’re just cool facial accessories,” Kaliardos said of the silver rings, which were temporarily adhered to models’ eyebrows with glue.
For the rest of the face, he used Luminous Moisture Cream, Radiant Cream Compact Foundation and Pressed Powder to give skin a glowing appearance. On the eyes, he used a dark pink-brown tone from the new Nars St-Paul-De-Vence Duo Eyeshadow palette over the lid, pulling the shade around the outer corners in a downward arc.
“It’s inspired by how Laura [Mulleavy] does her makeup,” Kaliardos said of the technique. “She does this thing where she drags down the corner of her eye shadow, and I thought, ‘That’s kinda cool.’”
Underneath, he drew a thin line of NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Rue Bonaparte to “lift up the eyes” and lightly dusted a metallic gold shade for a little shimmer.
But the standout, of course, were the brows, which may have inspired a few models to consider making the look a bit more permanent.
“The eyebrow is not my style, but maybe I would do the lip,” model Xiao Wen Ju said. “I think the lip is really sexy.”
